Baxters

Project Description

Baxters is an international food company, based in Fochabers, Scotland. The company also operate out of Canada, Australia and Poland. Baxters is best known for the production and sale of canned soups, made to unique recipes, such as Royal Game.

We (JWT) were tasked with creating a new website for them, which was current, forward-thinking and above all showcased their commitment to quality.

My Role

I led the Front-End build of the site, utilising HTML5, CSS3 & JS/jQuery, whilst employing a variety of Progressive Enhancement techniques.

I then worked alongside a number of Back-End Developers, implementing my static templates into ExpressionEngine.

bmibaby - Give us a break

Project Description

bmibaby is a popular low-cost airline based in the UK.
The company operate flights throughout the UK and Europe.

We (JWT) were tasked with creating an experience for bmibaby customers; that would allow them to engage with the brand, as well as their friends in a social gaming experience.

To do this, we created a social quiz game that allowed players to invite their friends from Facebook onto a team. Teams would then compete to win free flights to a destination of their choice.

The game ran for Four weeks and was hailed as a huge success, leading to it being shortlisted for a number of awards.

My Role

I led the Front-End build of the site (XHTML/CSS3/jQuery), opting to use modern techniques and practices in order to speed up development and keep code maintainable.

The site is powered by Django and makes use of the Facebook API.

bmibaby - tinytours

Project Description

bmibaby is a popular low-cost airline based in the UK.
The company operate flights throughout the UK and Europe.

We (JWT) were tasked with creating a crowd-sourced community travel guide based around bmibaby flight destinations.

We employed use of the Google Maps API in order to allow users to create a 'tour'. Each users tour lists a series of places to go/see within a chosen destination. Users are able to create, view and rate tours; allowing them the chance to gain inspiration from others, or add place recommendations of their own.

My Role

I worked with other Front/Back-End Developers to build the site, making use of a number of technologies, techniques and API's, helping to provide an immersive and interactive social guide.

Although just launched, we hope the site will grow organically as users begin populating it with their own content.

Magnet Kitchens

Project Description

Magnet is a British kitchen retailer operating in over 200 locations across the UK supplying products under the Magnet and Magnet Trade brands. The company has over 2,000 employees. Its headquarters are in Darlington, County Durham.

Magnet was listed on the London Stock Exchange and was once a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index but is now part of Nobia UK, a division of the Nobia group which is listed on the Swedish Stock Exchange.

My Role

We (JWT) took the decision to rebuild the Magnet site using Django, allowing for flexible templating and rapid deployment.

I was tasked with taking pre-existing templates and working them into the Django templating system. I was also responsible for phasing out older Flash functionality in favour of jQuery effects.

Note: The Magnet website has recently undergone a redesign. I was not part of the new build, but will be responsible for ongoing updates and maintenance.

Ian James Cox

Project Description

Ian is a Freelance Digital Designer based in Manchester. Ian specialises in Digital/Interactive design and Illustration. I've worked with Ian numerous times in the past, so am used to working with his elaborate and highly interactive concepts.

When Ian approached me to build his new site, I was excited at the concept. It allowed me to experiment, as well as push the boundaries in terms of the look, feel and behaviour of a modern website.

My Role

I took Ian's concept/designs and built the site based on Ian's feedback and direction. Ian wanted something unconventional, requiring a lot of interactive work such as custom scrolling and animation.

The site is also optimised for tablet devices, making use of swipe gestures when touch surfaces are detected.

My Role

I built the Front-End of the site, making use of HTML5, CSS3 and JS/jQuery. The site makes use of AJAX as well as a parallax scrolling effect.
